UPDATE (01/07): Thanks to YouTube user kikaiチャンネル we now have some close-up footage of the Luigi and Peach Happy Meal toys in action! Check it out below:
A new line of Super Mario Bros. themed Happy Meals toys is set to release at McDonald’s in Japan, starting January 8th.
The line of children’s toys will be made up of some of the most recognizable Super Mario Bros. characters, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Bowser, Yoshi and Boo. All the Happy Meal toys will have unique features and will be randomly selected for each meal purchased. Some of the toys’ features will include Mario making his iconic jumping sound when he leaps into the air, Luigi spinning as his arms are stretched out, and Toad will raise his arms when the button on his back is pushed. Other toys, such as Yoshi and Peach, are a little bit different and will feature hidden stickers. (Many thanks to Nintendo Life for this info!)
It’s also worth noting that these toys appear to be for both boys and girls. McDonald’s tends to release a line of toys for both girls and boys, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time.
This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has released a line of Super Mario toys. The restaurant chain has been releasing Mario themed Happy Meal toys since the NES days. We’ll have to wait and see if McDonald’s plans to bring this new line outside of Japan. Fans that live in Japan, however, can start purchasing these awesome toys starting January 8th, for about $4 USD.
