Nintendo has just released a new message from President Tatsumi Kimishima to shareholders and investors, for what seems to be an encouragement towards working with the company, as well as updating its partners on what it plans to do in the near future. In the statement, Nintendo emphasizes its long-standing tradition of allowing everyone, regardless of age, gender and experience, have access to its games, and that its current goal is to expand this population of people who have access to its IP even further.
To do this, the message continues, Nintendo is bringing itself to the mobile and smart-device realm. Kimishima also stresses in the message that their next gaming platform project, the NX, has a unique, brand new concept, and he mentions that it aims to connect both the mobile and platform projects that the company is working on. Lastly, Kimishima touches on amiibo, and how popular they’ve been among the consumer base. This, along with mentioning that its endeavors are expanding beyond video games (such as the soon-to-be Nintendo theme park at Universal Studios) and its upcoming account system, “My Nintendo,” are all major initiatives Kimishima makes sure to update Nintendo’s investors and shareholders on.
To many hardcore Nintendo fans, none of this is new information, but the message is certainly good news. Kimishima is sharing the most important information about all of Nintendo’s upcoming projects with its investors, with the hope of getting more people financially interested by Nintendo’s prospects. If this proves successful, it could potentially mean an incredible near future for the company, as they’re taking on more projects than ever and expanding into new territories that we could have only dreamed of a few years ago.
What’s so major about seeing all of this information together in one place is that no one would have ever seen a video game company expanding the way Nintendo is. What started out decades ago as a niche industry for a specific group of people has turned into the fastest growing entertainment industry in the world, and while no one could have predicted that this would be the future of gaming, it only makes sense. Nintendo pursuing these kinds of things first is not only innovative, but important for their future.
Personally, what I think this message means is that Nintendo is going to be a real powerhouse over the next year. For Kimishima to be able to share all of these projects means they are definitely in the works right now, rather than something they’re hoping to do later on (like the enigmatic Vitality Sensor from a few years ago). Though, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised – Nintendo has always been forward-thinking.
Kimishima ends the message with a quote that is sure to please fans and investors alike:
Leave a Comment“Nintendo will continue to flexibly transform itself by adapting to changing times while constantly valuing the spirit of originality based on the belief that the “true value of entertainment lies in its uniqueness” – and will continue to provide products and services that people will be surprised and delighted by.”
