In exciting 2DS news, the official Japanese Pokémon website has announced that four new bundles are releasing in Japan. The announcement of the original Pokémon Red, Green, Blue and Yellow games were a pleasant surprise for fans during November 12th’s Nintendo Direct, and it looks like Nintendo and Pokémon really want to promote their new virtual console launch.
Though it only looks like they’re confirmed in Japan at the moment, these new 2DS bundles come packaged with a 2DS, a pre-installed copy of any of the four original games, and a download code for a Mew. Unfortunately, it looks like this Mew code is for your Pokémon X & Y or Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire games, and not the originals.
Possibly even more exciting, each 2DS is different depending on the bundle you get. There is one per each of the four games, and each 2DS comes as the color of its corresponding game. Each is also semi-transparent, alluding to the Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald game cartridges. Very retro!
These handhelds are truly gorgeous, so keep your fingers crossed for a North American release! However, I think it’s fair to say that we’ve all played these games enough where, whether we speak Japanese or not, we could get through them in their original language just fine if we had to. The consoles will be released in Japan on February 27th, 2016 and retail for 9,980 yen. Pre-orders open in Japan on December 26th.
