Lightwood Games, a specialist developer of puzzle games, has brought a totally unique experience to the 3DS with its newest game, Word Puzzles by POWGI. Six different pen-and-paper style word puzzles are available with the game, all of which are solved by using the stylus and the system’s touch-screen controls. And if you’re a fan of puzzles and amiibo, the fun doesn’t stop there! Word Puzzles will be one of the first independent game to support amiibo on the 3DS, with the other game being amiibo Tap. Word Puzzles will be the only handheld game that supports all of the amiibo releases– and not just the amiibo up until this point in time, but every figure and card released now and in the future. How cool is that?
The puzzles are generated from the user’s content stored within an amiibo. For example, the nickname you assign one of your amiibo, along with your own name, are two pieces of information that can be pulled from the figure and used in the game. For instance, let’s say you named your Pikachu amiibo Cuddles. You might end up seeing a One Word puzzle like this show up in the game:
Maybe you named an amiibo after yourself or a friend. A Mixups puzzle like the one below could be generated showing off that name. (The puzzle reads “Good morning Chris.”)
Puzzles on a handheld have never been quite this interactive, or personal, which opens up a lot of doors for fun possibilities. Hundreds of puzzles are immediately available to take with you anywhere you go, and using amiibo (both figures and those shiny new amiibo cards) with them can unlock and infinite number of new puzzles.
The number of puzzle types brings even more to the table when it comes to variety. Check out the six available styles:
-
Word Maze – Like a wiggly word search! Find the words and solve the maze!
Mixups – A fiendishly difficult anagram puzzle with three words all jumbled together!
One Word – The word search puzzle where there’s only one word to find!
Flowers – Plant pairs of letters around the flower to grow six words with a common middle!
Circles – Three overlapping circles hide three connected words. Find the missing letter to unscramble them all!
Crossovers – Crossword puzzles with only one letter missing, which come together to solve a clue!
Needless to say, it’s exciting to see amiibo hit a new genre on the 3DS. Don’t hesitate to give Word Puzzles by POWGI a try to see what it’s all about. The game is available for $9.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 in the eShop starting today, November 2nd. So get all your amiibo lined up and ready to go– it’s puzzle playing time!
