Among the long list of additions fans were hoping to see in the next Mario Kart game, one of the most common was certainly the addition of more costume options. While previous entries did feature some basic palette swaps for some characters, there hadn’t been that much customization potential otherwise. That all changed with Mario Kart World, which added 103 unique costumes for the main cast of characters. That said, they all have to be individually unlocked, which might seem intimidating at first, but is thankfully pretty easy!

Character costumes in Mario Kart World are unlocked by using Dash Food, which can be found at drive-ins and food stands across the various tracks of the game. The amount of costumes per character varies quite a bit, but only the main 24 characters have costumes. This means that none of the NPC characters have any, which while slightly unfortunate, makes collecting them all a bit easier at least.

The easiest way to go about getting them all is to go to each track in Free Roam and find some Dash Food, then change characters and use it repeatedly to gradually add them all to the roster. As a note: some tracks feature multiple different types of Dash Food at different locations, and only specific kinds will achieve the transformations you’re looking for. With that in mind, here is a full list of each character’s outfits and the easiest places to find them:

While quite an expansive list, collecting them all is pretty straightforward! It’s just a matter of heading over to the listed tracks and getting them all. It will still take some time, but it is very doable. Between these costumes and the various NPC characters to unlock, there’s quite a lot of work that goes into completing the Mario Kart World roster. It’s certainly worth the effort though!
