Undoubtedly one of the most surprising moments for many players just starting Pokémon Pokopia is getting to see Ho-Oh and Lugia for the first time. Those familiar cries overhead accompanied by the sound of massive wings flapping as they go by makes for a truly magical moment the first time it happens. That being said, they only stick around for a few seconds at most before dropping one of their feathers and disappearing. However, there’s actually a way to call them down and speak to them!
How to summon Ho-Oh in Pokopia
The key to meeting the Johto box art Legendary Pokémon lies within the feathers they drop and the other Legendary trios they represent. To summon Ho-Oh, the player must first find all of Johto’s Legendary beasts: Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Once the last of them is found, the player will be given the recipe for the Clear Bell, which is the item needed to call Ho-Oh down from the sky.
How to summon Lugia in Pokopia
To summon Lugia, the process is the same as Ho-Oh but with the Kanto Legendary birds: Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres instead. Like with Ho-Oh, upon meeting the final bird the player will be given the recipe for the Tidal Bell, Lugia’s equivalent to the Clear Bell.
Time to make the Clear Bells
With each of the recipes in hand, the next step is to actually make the bells. Both of them require five rare Pokémetal and five Rainbow Feathers or Silver Feathers respectively. The latter shouldn’t be too difficult, as by this point in the game you will likely already have a few of each, but the rare Pokémetal can be more challenging. The best method for finding more rare Pokémetal is by checking the daily shops at the PC and the Pokémart if you’ve built one, or just by mining Pokémetal ore in places like the Sparkling Skylands.

Once either the Clear Bell or Tidal Bell are finally made, all that’s left to do is to ring it while the respective Pokémon is flying overhead. This can take a while, especially if the weather happens to be wrong, but with enough patience they’ll show up sooner or later. Once the bell is rung, they’ll fly down and speak to you directly, giving you their Pokédex entry in the process. Ho-Oh and Lugia can’t actually be invited to stay as permanent residents – possibly because they wouldn’t fit in any of the houses–but they’ll stand around and chat for a while, which is pretty cool nonetheless!
