As excited as I am about the idea of sitting down with my system to game, I’m just as passionate to collect accessories for my system. What does that mean exactly? I absolutely love personalizing my systems — I always have when it’s come to handheld devices. And personally speaking, I like to do so in theme. So when the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced I was really gearing up to making my system something special, something that reflected who I was on my new mini machine, especially since the Big N was only releasing one color option. Sure, the black console gave off a cool, sleek look, but it definitely didn’t fit my usual cute and pretty aesthetic (Animal Crossing, Princess Peach, etc.).
Nintendo didn’t send out Switch 2 models to many folks for testing so not many product manufacturers could produce accessories in time for launch. I scoured Amazon and other retailers, and my determination paid off, because the day after the Switch 2’s launch, GeekShare’s site officially launched their gorgeous Sanrio collection for the Switch 2! Carrying cases, thumb grips, protective cases for the system itself, and screen protectors were all on offer. Other designs were also available, but I only had eyes for Hello Kitty and her friends.
GeekShare’s Sanrio Switch 2 collection
The cuteness cannot be contained, let me tell you. I had a difficult time choosing a design from the six available at the time (Pompompurin looks to be sold out at the time of this writing), but ended picking Cinnamoroll (Game Time) due to the pastels and rainbow aesthetic jiving with my usual vibe. Also, there’s no denying the adorableness of Cinnamoroll gaming on his own Switch on the back panel among the clouds, stars, and sweets! $22.99 for the protective case was a great price.
As far as the fit goes, it’s incredibly snug to the system and Joy-Con, and somewhat velvety to the touch. I have zero issues using the case, and I’ve spent several hours playing Mario Kart World in handheld mode using the case. I actually find the Switch 2 more comfortable in my hands with the case rather than without the case due to its soft texture!
The materials are high quality as well, which I’m very particular about when it comes to regarding my system accessories. I’d just like to point out that I’m especially appreciative of the way the Joy-Con covers snap and stay in place. They’re so sleek!
I had previously ordered the Hello Kitty thumb grips for Switch 2, which GeekShare had listed up before the new system’s release, and they arrived very quickly. I had been bummed to see that the Cinnamoroll thumb grips were sold out on GeekShare’s site at launch. Hopefully there will be a restock in the future, as with all the sold out items.
One gripe with the GeekShare process was the shipping. My thumb grips arrived quickly and were sent from a closer location. My case, however, was shipped from China and the tracking was incredibly difficult to follow. At one point I completely lost the package through updates. While I can’t blame the company for that, I wish there was a better option for shipping.
Sonix’s Sanrio collection
Finding a carrying case for my Switch 2 was a much easier task. Sonix had a number of colorful Sanrio options to choose from on Amazon, and they didn’t just include carrying cases, but they extended to thumb grips and game card cases too. Even from the sales photos, I could tell the quality was high and I was confident that I could do no wrong in choosing a case. I went with the Hello Kitty & Friends Grid Case in the end because I really loved the simplicity and pastels.
Even with the GeekShare case on the system, the Switch 2 fits beautifully inside the carrying case. Like with many Switch 1 cases, there’s an inside flap where game cards can be stored and also a pocket where other accessories can be placed. A sturdy handle can be found on the top, along with two cute zippers along the edges.
I have no complaints about my Sonix case or experience. It’s just a beautiful product and I highly recommend ordering one if you’re looking for something cute to store or carry your Switch 2 around in.
Future Switch 2 collections
I’m always on the hunt for cute accessories for my game collection, so you can bet that I’ll be sharing more of my findings here as they’re released by companies. Stay tuned!
