Nothing hits me in the nostalgia quite like the original Metroid Prime. I first played it with my brother on Christmas Day in 2002, huddled in my tiny bedroom at my parents’ house. For the first time during the GameCube era, I remember being completely blown away by the visuals. From the opening cutscene where Samus escapes from the massive Meta Ridley to the unforgettable battle against the massive plant creature Flaahgra, every moment felt jam-packed with detail and purpose. Those scenes were ultimately scrapped to preserve the original GameCube atmosphere. It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes detail that makes the Metroid fan in me absolutely giddy.
