In a surprise appearance during the Apple Keynote, Shigeru Miyamoto announced Nintendo’s next mobile game – Super Mario Run. It has since been confirmed that the game is part of the company’s DeNA partnership, and that it “represents the next phase of Nintendo’s expansion to mobile platforms”.

In a press release announcing the new mobile title, Nintendo has revealed that the previously announced Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem mobile games won’t be heading our way in Fall as planned last month:

“After the launch of Super Mario Run in December, Nintendo plans to deliver its previously announced mobile device titles in the Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem series before the end of March, 2017.”

It’s worth noting that there is supposedly one other mobile game in the works, as DeNA originally slated five games to be released in the 2016 fiscal year. We’ll just have to wait and see if it comes to fruition.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
