Today’s Pokémon Sun and Moon trailer was a little light on new creatures announcements compared to other recent trailers, but what we did see is still pretty exciting.

typenull

For one, with the announcement of Type: Null (seen above) we have our first Pokémon with a colon in its name. A synthetic creation with the strengths of a variety of different Pokémon, Type: Null was built to rival mythological Pokémon. Its helmet is designed to control its latent powers, but it’s so heavy it lowers agility. Type: Null’s ability is Battle Armor, which prevents critical hits.

jangmo-o

Next we have something a little cuter – the Scaly Pokémon, Jangmo-o. A Dragon type with the pride of a warrior, Jangmo-o never neglects training, and uses the scales on its head for both offense and defense. It never turns its back on enemies, giving it the reputation of a valiant Pokémon. Thanks to its scale it has two protective abilities, Soundproof and Bulletproof. The latter negates damage from ball and bomb moves, and was exclusively a hidden ability for the Chespin evolutionary line in previous games.

alolanraticate

Finally we have a look at a Pokémon many expected after the reveal of Alolan Rattata in the Nintendo Direct last week: Alolan Raticate. This fluffier, full-cheeked form acts as the boss of the swarms of Rattata, but unlike them it has a preference for fresh fruit and high-class ingredients. Supposedly it even chooses not to venture out by itself, instead ordering its Rattata underlings to gather food for it. Also noteworthy is that Alolan Raticate is the Totem Pokémon of the first island in Pokémon Moon, rather than Yungoos as is the case in Pokémon Sun.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
