While it might still a bit early to call Pokémon GO a flash in the pan or a flavor of the week, it’s probably safe to say that it has already crested popularity peak. Recent data from app tracking services Sensor Tower, SurveyMonkey and Apptopia shows a precipitous decline in downloads, usage and daily playtime since the beginning of August.

During July, GO maintained nearly 45 million active users, now that number sits closer to 30 million.

This may simply be the standard cycle for app store phenoms playing out on a much larger scale, but it certainly hasn’t helped that Niantic has neglected to address some of the most glaring issues that players are having with the game. The delay of Pokémon GO Plus into September from its original planned July release hasn’t helped momentum, either.

Niantic assures trainers that it’s hard at work on bug fixes, gameplay tweaks and exciting new features; but only time will tell if it’ll be able to maintain GO’s massive foothold in the mobile market.
