UPDATE (12:52 p.m. CST): A Nintendo representative told Game Informer that the delay is due to the application itself, not a problem with the device.

“The delay is due to the preparations for the Pokémon GO application update in order to optimize Pokémon GO Plus. In order for us to offer new experiences to play Pokémon GO with Pokémon GO Plus with a quality level high enough to satisfy as many people as possible, we decided that it is necessary to take enough time for the completion. We ask for your understanding.”

Bad news: Nintendo has confirmed that the Pokémon GO Plus device has been delayed til September via the Nintendo Canada, Nintendo UK, and Nintendo Europe Twitter accounts.

While the release of Pokémon GO earlier this month was a huge success for Niantic and The Pokémon Company, some.were concerned about the release of the periphery Plus device, which will allow you to play the game without your phone open. While Nintendo offered a late July release date for the product at E3, the lack of a hard release date as the end of the month loomed made it seem as if the product would be delayed – and it was.

While a disappointment to many, it seems as if the device will now have more time for testing and production. Check back in the future for more information, including a hard release date.
