Niantic has supposedly postponed the release of Pokémon GO in Japan due to leaked emails detailing a partnership with McDonald’s.

The claim is given some legitimacy by McDonalds Japan confirming the collaboration in an official press release earlier today. The claims of 3000 regional restaurants being involved, however, are downplayed.

As for the delay, apparently the mobile developer was worried about the potential server overload that might be caused by millions of new players logging in at once. Presumably by launching the game without any preamble they can have a more steady flow of users.

This is sure to frustrate many players in Japan who are eager to get their hands on Pokémon GO. We don’t know when the game will finally be released in the region, but we’ll keep you updated!
