It’s worth noting that these aren’t physical figures; they are computer generated models. The official Pokémon website and Famitsu make it clear that the downloadable title is a digital board game, and no actual toys are planned.
The Pokémon Company has just released a new trailer for an upcoming smartphone game, separate from Pokémon GO!
The game is being developed by The Pokémon Company and HEROZ, a development company that often builds AI for virtual chess and backgammon games. The title is called Pokémon Comaster (possibly translated as Koma Star) and is due for release in Japan this upcoming Spring 2016, for both iOS and Android devices. It is confirmed to be free-to-play, with optional in-app purchases also available. (The nature of these purchases is still unknown.)
As you may have guessed from HEROZ’s background, the game is said to combine Pokémon and artificial intelligence. Going with this theme, the game is a strategy board game where the player collects virtual figures that each have their own unique attributes, and then builds a deck that is used to try and defeat opponents. How this battle system will work is not currently known, and whether it will be similar to the TCG is still to be determined. Pokémon Comaster is set to be single player, but will support online play.
Full details have not been released, and there is no word yet on release in any other regions, but stayed tuned for more information on this upcoming mobile title! Check out the trailer below!
