As Nintendo delivered its most recent financial results last week the publisher finally confirmed its next move in the mobile space – Mario Kart Tour. Now, thanks to DeNA’s own meeting earlier today in Japan, as relayed by Takashi Mochizuki on Twitter, we have a few more specifics.
DeNA CEO said "Mario Kart Tour," a Nintendo-DeNA smartphone game planned for FY18, will be free-to-start.

The fact DeNA is developing the game is news in-and-of itself, as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp was the last game planned for its initial wave of Nintendo collaboration games. The fact Mario Kart Tour will be free-to-start is arguably the biggest piece of news, though.
Given DeNA’s track record with Super Mario Run, it’s probable the new racer will have one free Cup and offer more for individual purchase, but we’ll have to wait and see to be sure.
We’re sure to learn more about the game as we approach its unspecified release date before March 2019.
