Just yesterday, Apple came out with its list of this past year’s “Best Of” selections, which highlights a variety of different media sold on Apple’s digital stores, from TV shows, to e-books, to most importantly, apps.
And while this kind of news wouldn’t usually warrant anything from a Nintendo news site, you may remember a little app that came out early July called Pokémon GO.
And, unsurprisingly, this little app was named the App Store’s “Breakout Hit” of 2016. This title is particularly special, because it doesn’t necessarily mean the award won any “top” places; sadly, it didn’t even place in the top two by the end of the year. However, Apple wanted to give it special recognition anyway, which in its own way feels even more special.
This really shouldn’t come as any sort of surprise to people, though. After all, we’re talking about the app that decorated headlines for weeks, and was pretty much the only thing people talked about for the majority of July. And while the hype did eventually taper off as expected, there’s still no denying the kind of immediate impact Niantic’s game had.
