Two new behind-the-scenes clips for the 2026 Resident Evil reboot have been released, offering fans of the film some insight into how a particular creature’s design was finalized and how the acid-eroding elevator scene was achieved.

The videos were published exclusively by Dread Central, and are snippets from a bonus featurette from the film’s upcoming home release titled “Anatomy of a Scene: From Storyboard to Splatter.”

Note: The following contains spoilers for Resident Evil (2026).

The first video focuses on the design of the Puker, the bloated creature that attempts to vomit acid on protagonist Bryan as he ascends the hospital’s elevator shaft.

Director Zach Cregger recalls how he originally had the zombie in a flannel shirt and jeans, and had already filmed scenes with this attire. Bryan’s actor, Austin Abrams, then suggested having the Puker in a hospital gown, a change that Cregger enthusiastically implemented.

“I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ It makes that character so much more interesting and gives him a story,” Cregger said.

He also gave the creature an IV drip to carry, and digitally altered the clothing in some previously shot footage for the new look.

The next video explores the dangerous climb towards the Puker, which has Bryan carefully treading around the rapidly melting floor of the elevator as the acid eats its way through. The corrosion was a practical effect achieved using acetone to dissolve specially constructed panels.

Stunt coordinator Jan Petřina was particularly impressed with how Abrams performed intense scenes such as this one.

“Austin doing his own stunts, I think it is unusual in a production like this. It was amazing, like that he could do all of it,” Petřina said.

Resident Evil is available now on digital platforms. It will launch on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 29th, 2026, with a limited-edition steelbook also available for the 4K and Blu-ray releases.

Nintendo Wire’s review called it “Cregger’s finest work so far, and without a doubt the greatest video game movie adaptation there is.”
