As most people likely assumed, FromSoftware has announced that its Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive PvPvE game The Duskbloods has been delayed into 2027. Making the announcement on Twitter, the company wrote, “While development of ‘The Duskbloods’ is at the final adjustment stage, we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027.” That seems smart considering my personal impressions of the network test back in August, which hoped for better performance and more gameplay depth.
Elaborating further, FromSoftware explains that feedback from said network test saw players taking an interest in some “core concepts” of the game. These included combat, strategic depth, and player expression. Surprisingly, that hits on mostly everything I complained about, as I was worried the combat loop would become stale before long. I’d still like to see performance enhancements, but those may actually be viable now that the Switch 2 supports VRR in docked mode.
Closing out, FromSoftware writes, “To further enhance these aspects, we have decided to move the launch, allowing time for final adjustments to game rules and balancing.” I totally understand that, and I’m more hopeful now that any nagging problems I had from the network test will be tweaked. I haven’t been champing at the bit to get back into The Duskbloods since August, but I do hope that FromSoftware can nail this different take on its aging formula. It would be nice to see where Souls-like games can go now that competitors are starting to catch up to FromSoft’s quality.
