A Nintendo 3DS modder has made an application that lets players use the handheld to control Spotify on PC and mobile devices.
Developer avncharlie released Spotify3DS on GitHub (via GoNintendo), where users can also find instructions on how to install the app. An X user also shared footage of the remote in action.

“You need Spotify Premium, a homebrew-enabled 3DS, Python 3 on your computer, and access to the console’s SD card,” the GitHub page reads.
The app uses the 3DS’ top screen to display the album cover, artist, album name, and track name. The bottom touchscreen displays “recently played” music, and lets users pause, skip to the next/previous track, and move through the song using a playback bar. The L and R shoulder buttons will decrease or increase the active device’s volume.
It’s important to note that the app does not play audio through the 3DS itself, but serves as a remote for another active device, like a PC or smartphone. Users should start Spotify playback on said device before opening Spotify3DS.
While Nintendo tends to release most of its music through its own Nintendo Music app, the company did release official soundtracks for the Super Mario Galaxy games and the animated Mario movies on Spotify earlier this year. Thanks to Spotify3DS, fans can now use their 3DS to enjoy the whimsical tunes of Mario’s spacefaring journeys and animated adventures.
