Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot, which reveals more of the film’s setup as well as two easter eggs that fans of the games may appreciate.
The video opens with protagonist Bryan (played by Austin Abrams) arriving at a hospital with a delivery. While there, he takes on another assignment which takes him on a nightmarish trip to Raccoon City.
In a setup similar to the ones seen in the Resident Evil 2 remake and the previous film, Welcome to Raccoon City, Bryan hits someone with his car. His attempt to call for help takes him to the vacant house seen in the previous trailer.
It’s here, in an extended look at the house, that eagle-eyed fans will find two easter eggs inspired by elements from the game series. The first is seen when Bryan goes upstairs and opens a door to an office, with a typewriter prominently displayed in the center of the shot. Typewriters were used in classic Resident Evil games to save progress.
The next is when Bryan opens a drawer as he searches for supplies. The box of shotgun shells he finds has the fictional brand Heavy Field, which is taken directly from Resident Evil 4 and 5.
The trailer also features a first look at Umbrella scientist Carl (played by Paul Walter Hauser), who tells Bryan: “Everything that has happened in this town transpired in a matter of hours.” Referring to Bryan’s medical package, Carl adds: “You’ve got no idea what you’ve got there in your hands.”
Despite having nods to the Resident Evil games in the form of easter eggs, director Zach Cregger – known for horror hits Barbarian and Weapons – recently explained that he avoided using any iconic characters such as Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine. His intention was to avoid the adaptation becoming “inorganic to this self-contained story.”

Resident Evil will be released in theatres on September 18th, 2026. It is co-written by Zach Cregger and Shay Hatten, and stars Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.
