In a post on social media tonight, Capcom confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds is now in development for Nintendo Switch 2. Despite having a showing at Summer Games Fest for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the new expansion that will bring Master Rank and much more, Capcom didn’t feel the need to make this announcement alongside that trailer.

Still, this is something I have long thought was inevitable considering how well the Switch 2 is doing in Japan. Japanese gamers love Monster Hunter and love portable gaming, so combining the two makes sense. Monster Hunter also has a stronger association with Nintendo’s platforms in Japan thanks to the series being primarily on Nintendo platforms starting with Monster Hunter Tri. It was really only with World that we saw the trend break, followed up a belated port of Monster Hunter Rise to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

There’s no word on when this port will release, not to mention how it will even run. Monster Hunter Wilds is still a bit finicky on PC and consoles, showing that Capcom’s in-house RE Engine is probably better suited for linear titles rather than open world games. Still, this makes too much sense to not figure out a solution.
