We’re just days away from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth hitting the Xbox Series X|S consoles and Nintendo Switch 2, so Square Enix has unleashed a new trailer to hype people up. I think it’s maybe a little misleading to not include Switch 2 footage here, but the trailer is pretty glossy and looks incredible. I sometimes forget how impressive Final Fantasy VII Remake was, which then makes Rebirth look like a generational leap in quality.

From the previously released demo, we know that Rebirth runs mostly fine on Switch 2. There are obvious compromises to get it working on Nintendo’s hybrid device, but Square Enix has done a remarkable job translating an otherwise massive game to the device. With Nvidia’s DLSS tech, it even has better image quality than Xbox Series S and base PlayStation 5. It’s astonishing how well DLSS works in resolving detail from such low resolutions, though it can only work so much. You likely won’t mistake Rebirth running on Switch 2 for a proper next-gen experience.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date

At any rate, Rebirth will be available on June 3rd, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. If you purchase the physical version on Nintendo’s console (which is a Game-Key Card, sadly), you’ll receive a limited-edition Zack Fair promo card for Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy.
