As we enter summer, developers and publishers are gearing up to reveal the next big games that will populate the back half of 2026. One such is Square Enix, who recently announced a new Dragon Quest stream for Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, at 6 a.m. PT | 8 a.m. CT | 9 a.m. ET. Scheduled to be ten minutes in length, the program is a quick update from the DQ team and fans are already queuing up for the premiere.
As of the time of writing around 350 people are eagerly anticipating what is next for the Dragon Quest brand. In a separate livestream earlier this month, series creator Yuji Horii confirmed that the team will be talking about Dragon Quest XII on May 27th, so that’s a lock for this program. Announced five years ago, the game has to be rounding the corner to being finished, so we might even get a release date alongside a new trailer. We could also see confirmation of more HD-2D releases considering how well Dragon Quest 1+2 HD has done.
The latest release in the series was Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, a full 3D remake that reworked different aspects of VII’s story while rethinking its design philosophies. Available on pretty much everything, including Switch 1 and 2, the game was well-received for how it cut most of the bloat out of the original game while retaining that game’s tone. I’m not sure if it represents what is next for the series, but it’s nice that Square Enix is willing to revisit the past now and then.
