Pragmata, the brand-new IP from Capcom, released this past Friday, April 17th and has surpassed 1 million copies over the weekend. This new sci-fi title has you play as astronaut Hugh Williams and android Diana as you explore a lunar base and try to return to Earth.

Pragmata was first announced back in 2020 during the PlayStation 5 reveal presentation, undergoing many challenges throughout development. Being Capcom’s first new IP in 8 years, the developers had big shoes to fill, and without an established fanbase, faced a large hurdle. How do they engage new players to give this new IP a chance?

Play the Pragmata demo

A demo, titled Sketchbook, was released on Nintendo Switch 2, an amiibo based off Diana was revealed, and the release date was later pushed up by a week. The addition of consoles, including the Switch 2, helped garner new fans that otherwise may have missed out, and the demo was able to seal the deal for those who were still unsure. This was the case for me, as I was on the fence but after playin the demo I committed and bought the game.

Pragmata Switch 2 review

Our very own Ricky Berg reviewed Pragmata. One of the highlights for Ricky was the battle system, which combines shooting with a new hacking mechanic. While it may sound complicated, it comes intuitively upon playthrough. Art direction and controls were another highlight, but if you want to know more in-depth thoughts, you can find his review here.
