As reported by IGN, a rather gigantic 65-tonne (roughly 130,000 pound) Super Mario Galaxy Movie sandcastle was unveiled as part of the Australian Sand Sculpting Championship 2026 in Frankston, Victoria today. The castle is included as part of an “Enchanted Realm” theme that will headline the competition this year.

Made in collaboration with Universal Studios, the sandcastle took nearly a week to produce and measures at 7.5 meters (24.6 feet) long and 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) tall. In a humorous comparison, IGN states this is roughly 685,000 Super Mario 64 cartridges. It’s also roughly 10 adult male African elephants, which are large in their own right.

IGN has a video of the castle being constructed, while Instagram account ManofMany has various pictures of the sculpture. It’s pretty impressive, though it will be sad to see it torn down once the promotional period for the film ends. I’m not sure how long it will be standing, so if you happen to be in the area, make sure to check it out.
