The wait is almost over — Pokémon Champions finally has a release date! Thanks to today’s bit of news, we’ve also learned about some new abilities and when we can expect Champions to take over as the official game for the VGC.

The three Z-A Starters — Meganium, Feraligatr, and Emboar — will receive different abilities when Mega Evolving. Meganium and Feraligatr each receive a brand-new ability. Meganium’s new ability is named Mega Sol. When active, Mega Sol lets Meganium use moves as if the sun was out. This means that moves like Solar Beam won’t require two turns to power up and use, and Synthesis will restore 67% of HP. Feraligatr’s new ability is Dragonize, continuing the trend of Abilities that change Normal-type moves. Any Normal-type moves become Dragon-type and receive a 20% power boost.

Pokémon Champions release date

Pokémon Champions will release on April 8th, 2026 and officially become the title for VGC tournaments beginning May 29th for the Indianapolis Regionals and continue through Worlds 2026 and beyond.

The game will make its way to mobile devices later this year.
