Fans of Capcom’s flagship horror franchise are still desperate to figure out who Leon S. Kennedy’s potential spouse may be, and the game’s director is playing coy in response.

Since Resident Evil Requiem’s launch last month, a subtle detail in the game’s cutscenes and unlockable concept art sent fans into a frenzy when a silver ring was spotted on Leon’s ring finger.

Eurogamer put the question to Director Koshi Nakanishi. He didn’t give any names, but did elaborate on what he wanted to achieve with Requiem’s ending.

“The answer will become clear some day, but not just yet,” Nakanishi teased.

“What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a ‘place to go home to’, and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there.

“Leon is a man who says very little about the things that truly matter, but he would sacrifice himself without a second thought to save a life right in front of him. So what does his ring signify? Resolve? Or a vow?

“He may never voice the answer himself, but for now, after finishing a long battle, he has a ‘place to go home to’. Isn’t that enough?”

It should be noted that Nakanishi didn’t actually confirm that Leon even is married – it could simply be a health-tracking smart ring, or serve some other purpose entirely.

Leon’s voice actor, Nick Apostolides, recently confirmed in an interview with Skill Up that he doesn’t know anything about his character’s current relationship status either.

Earlier this month, Nakanishi confirmed that story DLC is in development for Requiem, so we may learn more about Leon’s mysterious accessory when that drops.

Resident Evil Requiem is available now on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. We said in our review: “Resident Evil may be revisiting the past with this latest entry, but for the most part, it manages to avoid its previous mistakes – and more importantly, capitalizes on what the series does best.”
