In a story that sounds like I should be writing it about the PC version of the game, Bethesda has announced that the recently released Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition for Switch 2 will be getting DLSS in a future update. Bafflingly, the game launched without the upscaler when it hit the eShop earlier this week, but then reports have stated it’s an otherwise very good conversion.
As Eurogamer reports, Fallout 4’s Nintendo debut has more options than you’d expect from a console port. Unlike the rather disastrous Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim port (which has been getting updates since it released), Fallout 4 launches with support for 30, 40, and 60 fps playback. While image quality takes a hit as you increase the frame rate, the game still manages to do 1080p at the highest refresh rate. There doesn’t seem to be any stuttering or noticeable problems, either.

What I’m guessing is that Bethesda wanted to rush this port out to coincide with Amazon Prime’s Fallout series, but didn’t want to launch it in a disastrous state. Implementing DLSS would have maybe taken too long, so the game is available now to ride off the wave of hype from the TV show. Considering the port is already pretty good, though, I imagine DLSS will only make it better.
