Nintendo uploaded a new “Creator’s Voice” video this morning to hype up Resident Evil Requiem, which will be hitting PC and consoles on February 27th, 2026. The game’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, talked not only about the general design of Requiem, but where he pulled inspiration from when designing past Resident Evil enemies. He also took some time to praise the Nintendo Switch 2’s increased performance specs, which allowed Capcom to get Requiem running incredibly well on the system.
In what is likely the most surprising revelation here, Nakanishi starts the video by explaining that the “Scarmiglione” enemy from Resident Evil Revelations was inspired by the Iron Knuckles in Zelda 2: Adventure of Link. An infamous enemy for anyone who has played Zelda 2, the Iron Knuckles raise and lower their shield in relation to whether Link is crouching or not. The Scarmiglione does something similar in Revelations, tasking players with aiming their guns correctly.
Speaking about story elements, it seems new protagonist Grace Ashcroft was introduced as a way to ease newcomers into the Resident Evil series. Nakanishi explains that Grace is completely new to the bioterrorism threat, so she will be encountering zombies for the first time. This is a mirror for players who are jumping in with Requiem, where they will also be engaging with zombies from a fresh perspective. He mentions how despite there being dozens of past Resident Evil games, they are all meant to be standalone, and Requiem was designed from that mindset.
As for how Requiem runs on Switch 2, it apparently was no real trouble getting the game running smoothly. As Nakanishi says in the video, “When we, the development team, first saw it in our hands, we were skeptical too, so we had to do a triple take. We thought to ourselves, ‘Oh, is this really running on Nintendo Switch 2?” It all worked so smoothly that we decided to just go ahead with the game as-is and make it for the console.”

Lastly, Nakanishi took some time to praise GameChat for allowing people to connect via the internet over games. For something like Resident Evil Requiem, not everyone will be able to tolerate playing it. With GameChat, you can share that experience with friends even if they aren’t physically in the room with you. “I feel GameChat was made just for Resident Evil,” Nakanishi says.
