With early copies of Resident Evil Requiem floating around, your chances of being spoiled on story elements before its February 27, 2026, release date are higher than ever. That sucks, and the situation is not lost on legendary designer Hideki Kamiya, director of the original Resident Evil 2. In a post on his infamous Twitter account, Kamiya said that anyone who spoils Capcom’s upcoming game will “deserve to die a thousand deaths.”
Last week, Capcom had asked fans not to share any early footage of Requiem out of respect for players who don’t have their copies yet. Nobody likes having a story spoiled ahead of time, and while I don’t believe it is the end of the world, common courtesy should remain a priority when discussing games on social media. Since copies are now out in the wild, the company warned about potential spoilers for anyone who wants to remain in the dark.

Following that, Kamiya recounted how Resident Evil 2 was spoiled before release by a weekly photo magazine. As he writes in his tweet, “For the sake of your own selfish satisfaction, you trample on the feelings of players eagerly awaiting the game, and the creators who poured their hearts into making it. It’s a despicable act that destroys everyone’s happiness – you deserve to die a thousand deaths. May you be cursed never to play games again.”
This is clearly a personal topic for Kamiya, though the “Die One Thousand Deaths” line is actually taken from Akuma in Street Fighter. Historically, he utters it when performing his Raging Demon technique. I don’t believe Kamiya wants people to die, but then you can never be too sure.
