While Super Bowl LX was an overall pretty good game, there was a surprisingly disappointing aspect this year: the advertisements. With the rise of generative AI in the tech sector dominating public conscious, most of the ads this year were different variations of AI slop that all looked awful. Thankfully, Pokémon was there to not only lift our spirits, but show us actual people talking about a series that means so much to them… including Lady Gaga!

Called “What’s Your Favorite,” it’s not too hard to figure out what this ad is all about. It features various celebrities reminiscing about which Pokémon are their favorites and why. With a cast including Trevor Noah, Jisoo, Charles Leclerc, Lamine Yamal, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Young Miko, and Lady Gaga, it’s certainly loaded with enough star power to balloon the cost of filming. Still, I think it’s pretty funny that Gaga would pick Jigglypuff as her favorite.

This ad is the first of many we’re likely to see as Pokémon enters its 30th anniversary. I still have fond memories of when I first encountered the series and how I wished it were real. I guess all those newscasters saying Pokémon was a fad were proven wrong.
