Nestled within yesterday’s Nintendo Partner Direct was an announcement that Disney Dreamlight Valley would finally be receiving a Switch 2 upgrade. Set to release on March 25, 2026, it will be a free upgrade for previous owners of the game, and included with all new purchases going forward. This update isn’t merely a resolution bump, however.

As detailed by the developer on its website, Dreamlight Valley for Switch 2 will include the aforementioned graphical upgrade, as well as a more consistent frame rate, faster load times, and an expanded item limit. I didn’t realize this was a thing (I’ve only played Dreamlight Valley on PC), but the Switch version was limited to 3,000 items per island to keep performance in check. On Switch 2, that will be expanded to 6,000, falling in line with the other versions of the game.

One of the more popular Animal Crossing-like games, Dreamlight Valley has been available on Nintendo Switch since it released four years ago. You’d think it would have been a prime candidate for an early Switch 2 upgrade, but I guess GameLoft wanted to take its time in perfecting the port before launch. I can appreciate that since a sloppy port would have been worse than waiting.
