Square Enix announced a few bombshells during today’s Nintendo Partner Direct stream. While Final Fantasy Rebirth’s Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S release date was the obvious highlight, the upcoming The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales was given a new trailer and a release date. The game may have been announced last year, but it looks as if Elliot will be ready to venture into the wilderness on this spring — on June 18th, 2026.

Scheduled for release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, a demo has been available for some months now that gave us a good idea of how Elliot will play. Essentially, it’s like a remix of The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past with a stronger emphasis on combat. I thought it was pretty fun, though I’m not sure if the dungeon design will hold up for an entire game. Even if it doesn’t, The Adventures of Elliot features the gorgeous HD-2D style that Square Enix has been perfecting and runs quite well on Switch 2.

The demo is still available to download from the eShop, though progress will not transfer to the main game. That makes sense as, by the time Elliot releases, the demo will be nearly a year old. Still, I’d recommend you check it out if you have a few hours to kill.
