Last night, a rumor started making the rounds that YouTube would be launching a native Switch 2 app for the popular video sharing platform. While no further information was given, the cited source was a moderator for YouTube’s official Discord server, so it was semi-legitimate. Now, the company has basically stated it will be arriving soon per a response to a tweet.
From the TeamYouTube Twitter account, the company responded to a person asking when a Switch 2 version of YouTube would be available. The company wrote, “Thank you for your inquiry. YouTube is not yet available on the Nintendo Switch 2, but it will be available soon.” Talk about noncommittal.

It’s not really surprising that the app is making its way to Nintendo’s newest console. With YouTube having been on Nintendo Switch 1 for years now, the Switch 2’s upgraded specs and higher resolution output should allow a native app to provide 4K video and HDR output. I guess you can also take it on the go, but your phone’s app is probably better suited to that.
