Developer IO Interactive has announced that in celebration of Hitman 3’s fifth anniversary, it will be updating the game with cross-progression on all platforms. You might be confused as the game technically doesn’t exist on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 as it was renamed to Hitman: World of Assassination back in 2023. Even still, this update will apply to all current versions of the game, which is available on something like 10 platforms.
“On this day, exactly 5 years ago, Hitman 3 launched worldwide for our players to experience, as the final chapter of the World of Assassination trilogy,” IO writes on its website. “As part of that special milestone, it was also important for Hitman to equip its players with a sense of continuity by allowing everyone to bring forward their established progression from previous parts.” Soon, you won’t have to worry about where you’re playing the game, as your progress will tag along with you.
Starting on February 3rd, 2026, cross-progression will be added to World of Assassination on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch (Cloud Version), Switch 2, Steam, Epic Games, Windows Store, and iOS. With this feature, players will be able to transfer their experience, player level, challenge progress, location mastery, inventory unlocks, achievements/trophies, Freelancer progression, and campaign progress to any platform. That’s incredibly generous, the least of which is because of how dense Hitman has become.

Will DLC carry over for Hitman 3’s 5th anniversary celebration?
What obviously won’t carry over is DLC. “To access specific locations, missions, or DLC items on another platform, you must own that content on that platform,” the website explains. “If you do not own a piece of content on a platform, you will not have access to it, or its associated unlocks there, even if you unlocked them elsewhere.” We’ve seen that with other games that feature cross-progression. It sort of sucks, but is understandable. There’s no way Sony is giving you free content on PS5 if you happen to own it on PC, for instance.
