I speculated as much last week during the new Divinity’s reveal for The Game Awards, but Larian Studios has announced that the next-gen update for Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Boasting higher resolution output, updated visuals, smoother playback, and all the DLC the base game received, this is the best way to experience the game on consoles if you have the appropriate hardware.
Better than a next-gen update is the fact that Larian is giving this version out for free if you have the previous release. I’m not sure if it applies to physical editions, but anyone who purchased it digitally can simply load up their digital storefront of choice and download this latest version. There’s no mention on whether save files transfer over, but the game does boast PS5 Pro optimization. That’s not really important to Switch 2 owners, however.
At the moment, the game for Switch 1 is on sale for $24.99 on the eShop. Its regular price is $49.99, which is probably what the Switch 2 port costs standalone. I’m not sure if the eShop listing for the Switch 2 version is live just yet, but 50% off for the game doesn’t seem like a bad deal.
