In a new interview with Gaming Bible (the link has since been taken down), prominent voice actor Jennifer Hale stated she would love to return to the role of Bayonetta in the future. While she wasn’t the original actor in the first two games, she wound up as a replacement for Hellena Taylor following a dispute between Taylor and developer PlatinumGames. The situation was very messy and resulted in a ton of hate being thrown towards both Hale and Platinum’s then vice president Hideki Kamiya. Despite all of that, Hale has said she had a good time.

“I’d love to play Bayonetta again, but I definitely got thrown under the bus by that whole thing,” Hale said, “and I was unable to speak on my own behalf because I was under not one but two NDAs. Eventually, I was allowed to make a statement, which I appreciated, and I was able to present the facts.” Those facts were that Taylor was offered around $15,000 for her work on the game, which was offered in sessions of roughly $3,000-4,000 a piece. Hale also signed under the assumption that Taylor passed on the role, not that she declined an offer.

“There were some things said presented as facts, but were false,” Hale explained. “I would have never taken a role otherwise. Before I accepted the audition, I checked everything thoroughly, and I trust the director. Thankfully, playing Bayonetta was so much fun, and the community was so welcoming to me, especially after the fiasco had passed and the facts came out. But it was not fun getting thrown under the bus like I had, but I was happy to come out on the other side.”

In the years since Bayonetta 3 released, the only game we’ve seen is the prequel Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. With Hideki Kamiya having left PlatinumGames to form a new studio with Capcom and most of the key talent gone, it seems unlikely that Bayonetta will actually get a continuation. Still, if it does happen, Hale is ready to reprise her role as the queen of all witches.
