Kirby fans, Sakurai fans, racing game fans UNITE — today is the day! 22 years after the release of Kirby Air Ride, we finally get to play the sequel. Kirby Air Riders has just launched, and with it, a launch trailer on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

The launch trailer shows off the 20 different characters you’ll be able to choose from, as well as a glimpse at the different machines and courses you’ll become familiar with. The visuals are stunning, with my personal favorite being a Rainbow Road-esque track set in space, closely followed by a steampunk-inspired track.

If you’ve never played the original Air Ride or participated in the Global Test Ride, you might feel overwhelmed watching. Air Riders is chaotic, stressful, and pure fun. It’s not technically a racing game, but rather a racing/battle game.

Throughout the trailer, you’re shown each mode, with an emphasis on the popular City Trial mode that has you collecting different power-ups before getting thrown into a Stadium with different rulesets to decide the winner. One thing I noticed is there’s no voiceover, letting the gameplay speak for itself.

Kirby Air Riders is available now for $69.99 MSRP, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
