Across social media this morning, Square Enix revealed the file size for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy VII Remake. If you were hoping you could store it on the console’s internal memory, you may need to clear some space soon. The standard edition of VII Remake will eat a substantial 90 to 95GB of storage. If you grab the early purchase version or the digital deluxe editions, you’re looking at a larger 93.8 to 99GB.
That is roughly 40% of the Switch 2’s internal storage. The console comes equipped with 249GB of internal SSD-like memory, which isn’t really much in today’s day and age. For comparison, the original launch PlayStation 5 was packed with 825GB and the Xbox Series X came with 1TB. Newer revisions have tweaked the amount, but the Switch 2 faces an uphill battle against price-to-performance since it also doubles as a handheld device. Still, you can expand the storage with Micro SD Express cards, which is something you may need to think about if you intend to play Final Fantasy VII Remake.

For comparison, Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Switch 2 is only 62GB, Hitman World of Assassination is 61GB, and Cyberpunk 2077 is 57GB. That’s a big difference from Final Fantasy VII Remake, though it likely comes down to the game using pre-rendered cutscenes for some of its cinematics. Square Enix probably didn’t compromise the quality of those, which would bulk out the size of the game dramatically. Whatever the case, make sure you keep some storage free if you intend to buy the game. Its physical version will be a Game Key Card, so you won’t even be safe if you go that route.
