Resident Evil Requiem’s producer has explained the reasoning behind Capcom’s bold decision to launch three of the horror series’ biggest installments at the same time.
During last month’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Capcom revealed that not only was Resident Evil Requiem coming to Nintendo Switch 2, but that its predecessors Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village – originally released in 2017 and 2021 respectively – would also launch on the system on the same day.
In an interview with New Game Network, Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa explained that making all three games available at once would appeal to series newcomers, by allowing them the option to either begin with 7 and play through to Requiem, or start with the newest entry.
Since Resident Evil 7 is widely considered a soft reboot of the franchise, it makes sense for Capcom to push the title as a natural starting point for those new to the series.
Kumazawa also provided further insight into the development of the games on Switch 2. He described running Village on the Switch 2 – which was the first title that Capcom prototyped for the system – as a “smooth process”. The project’s success then encouraged Capcom to attempt a Requiem port, and then a 7 port.
A cloud version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard previously released on the original Nintendo Switch, which Kumazawa said served as “a bit of a baseline” for the developers to run the game on Nintendo hardware.
Kumazawa also told VGC last month, “when we got the Switch 2 hardware, we were surprised in a good way about how smooth the process was for us to bring the existing development version of the game to that platform.”
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27th, 2026.
