Teased ahead of launch, the recently released Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be getting a DLC stage with cameos from popular Sega villains. The first antagonist announced was Dr. Eggman from the Sonic series, but Sega has now revealed that Death Adder from Golden Axe will be squaring off against Joe Musashi in the near future. Talk about a melding of two classic Sega juggernauts.

The post was made on social media yesterday without much fanfare. There’s an illustration with the silhouette of Death Adder and a description stating, “The katana versus the axe.” I guess Death Adder will be gigantic on this level, but either way, it’s a cool tease for the future of Sega’s retro revival titles. Golden Axe was announced back in 2023 as one of five series Sega would be resurrecting with new titles, of which Shinobi: Art of Vengeance was another. It would be really cool if this DLC was a sleeper reveal.
There’s still no word on when this DLC stage will be available, but it is included in the Digital Deluxe edition of Art of Vengeance. The game is quite good, as our review notes.
