In a move that many likely expected, Nintendo has announced that it has delayed the release of the live-action Legend of Zelda movie by a few months. Originally scheduled to hit theaters on March 26th, 2027, the film will now make its way to the silver screen on May 7th, 2027. That’s hardly the biggest delay in cinema history and is likely not even for anything major. In a post on Twitter, in fact, legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned “production reasons.”
This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it…

As you can see in the embedded tweet, there doesn’t seem to be an issue with casting or director changes or anything. Likely, Nintendo is working to secure a production house that will handle CGI for the film or something along those lines. Once all of the actors film their scenes, the film will move into post-production, where backgrounds, creatures, etc, get added and that will take upwards of a year, if not more. Nintendo clearly doesn’t want to rush this project out the door, so the extra time should prove fruitful.
