For nearly as long as video games themselves have existed, fighting games have been living in the public’s mind, even beyond the arcades. There have been many films based on fighting games over time, including the iconic Mortal Kombat films from back in the ‘90s. Mortal Kombat’s universe and characters work particularly well on the big screen, hence why the series is still receiving film adaptations even now. The next movie in the series, Mortal Kombat II, is set for release later this year, and some of the first images of the new cast have just been revealed!

The new photos come via Entertainment Weekly and give a window into not just some of the returning cast from the 2021 film, but a few new characters as well. Most notably is the first look at Johnny Cage played by Karl Urban, who seems likely to serve as the main character. That’s not all though, as Adeline Rudolph’s debut as Kitana was shown off as well. In perhaps the most shocking new reveal of all, Shao Khan’s menacing new design can be seen as played by Martyn Ford. That seems to be all the new character reveals, but of course it wouldn’t be a sneak peek at a Mortal Kombat film without a scene featuring Scorpion being teased as well.

The air date for Mortal Kombat II is set for October 24th, 2025, and serves to follow along the same storyline set by the 2021 Mortal Kombat film. There’s plenty of potential to be had, especially with a whole new assortment of characters, so needless to say that any sneak peek is exciting. Keep an eye out for more new shots and even potential trailers as October inches closer, it’s not too far away now!
