In the nearly 30 years the Pokémon franchise has existed, it has grown to become a globe-spanning empire. Beyond even the video games themselves, Pokémon has a wide array of content to enjoy. One of the most popular is the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which has been carrying along since the very beginning. For every year since 2011, the TCG has even been featured in McDonald’s Happy Meals with special promotions each fall. Despite that, this year’s promotion has largely remained a mystery up until more information was discovered just recently.

The source of these details is the Pokémon TCG fansite PokéBeach, which is also where the original French release window was revealed back in August. As with past Happy Meal TCG sets, all of the cards will be reprints with unique numbering. This year’s set features primarily Dragon Pokémon, with there being 15 unique cards total, six of them holographic. This includes the following:

  • Charizard
  • Pikachu
  • Jigglypuff
  • Eevee
  • Dragonite
  • Quagsire
  • Umbreon
  • Rayquaza
  • Hydreigon
  • Drampa
  • Hatenna
  • Dragapult
  • Roaring Moon
  • Koraidon
  • Miraidon

For the time being it is unknown when this collaboration will arrive in the US. Typically it takes place between August and September, but for unknown reasons has been delayed this year. The set arrives in France between December 4th and January 21st, and while it might be easy to expect it to run in December in the US as well, the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 promotion may push it out even further. A safe bet seems to be January 2025, which would also happen to coincide with the Chinese New Year. That all being said, this is entirely speculative, so until it formally gets announced we’ll just have to wait to find out.
