With the recent announcement that Mario Kart Tour will no longer be getting new content, I’ve been dwelling on memories of the demise of another of Nintendo’s mobile offerings, Dragalia Lost, which would be celebrating its 5th anniversary today if it were still running.

A collaboration between Cygames and Nintendo, Dragalia Lost was Nintendo’s first (and only) mobile-exclusive property. Over the years it gave us exciting gameplay, gorgeous art, a killer soundtrack, and plenty of superbly designed characters. Several collaborations also took place, featuring characters and other design elements from franchises like Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Mega Man, Persona, and more. For a long time, Dragalia seemed like the little game that could, and Euden and co. kept on trucking until just past its 4th anniversary, with the Halidom shutting its gates and going offline at the end of November 2022. You can no longer play Dragalia Lost — not officially anyway — but I wanted to give a quick shoutout to what may be my favorite mobile game of all-time on its 5th anniversary.

There’s no new promotional art, no new music to go along with a flashy event with a demanding new boss fight, but there are the memories of everyone who played this gorgeous little mobile game. There is, of course, a smattering of fans out there who are celebrating the 5th anniversary in their own way, whether it’s fanart posted under the #DragaliaLost hashtag on Twitter and Instagram, or heartfelt posts on the r/DragaliaLost subreddit. Dragalia Lost was special, and I put a lot of time and effort into it over the years, and I’m glad I did. I’ve even still got the game downloaded on my phone – it’s unplayable, and taking up about 10 gigabytes of space, but it’s a nice memento to all the good times.

Hopefully there’s more to be had with the Dragalia Lost IP in the future, either from Cygames or Nintendo, but if not, at least we had it for as long as we did.
