UPDATE (3/30): Miitomo’s version 1.1 update is now live in the Japanese IOS and Android stores. In addition to the new features listed below, the update also allows the previously locked region to be changed. Now users of the Japanese version of Miitomo can set the region to U.S. and link a U.S. My Nintendo account to the app. Miitomo is due to launch tomorrow, March 31st, in the North American iOS and Google Play stores.
Despite being less than a week old in Japan, and yet to be released in the rest of the world, the first update for Miitomo, Nintendo’s first smartphone app, is already on the way.
The update will add three new features to the social networking app:
- The ability to send friend requests to friends of your friends.
- “Everybody Answers” events, where everybody answers the same featured question.
- An “Online Answers” feature, where you can view answers shared on Twitter.
The official word from Nintendo is that Miitomo is still due to launch in 15 additional territories, including the United States, by the end of March. As of the time of this writing, preregistration for Miitomo and the new My Nintendo rewards program is still available here.
