It’s hard to believe that Pokémon is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To make sure fans have something to celebrate, Nintendo is releasing a bunch of merchandise, downloads, 3DS/2DS bundles, and more. Not to overshadow all of that, Nintendo will also be airing an advertisement for Pokémon during Super Bowl 50 this February.
As most of us know, running an ad during the Super Bowl doesn’t come cheap. According to Business Insider, to run even a 30 second Super Bowl ad Nintendo will have to shell out a whopping 5 million dollars, which is a 11% increase from last year.
This will be the first Pokémon ad to ever be shown during the Super Bowl and “will encourage fans to Train On,” said the Pokémon Company in a press release. What this commercial will mean for Pokémon moving forward is hard to say, but if we had to guess we’d expect it to be related to the upcoming smartphone game, Pokémon Go. We will have to wait and see.
