The momentous occasion is nearly upon us, Trainers! We know a lot of you have been waiting for the Shiny variant of Rayquaza for quite some time, so you’ll be happy to know we now have more details about the Legendary making its way to the game. Niantic has shared this video with the announcement:
Oh. We almost forgot. 🤭

“Rayquaza is said to have lived for hundreds of millions of years in the ozone layer, descending only to put the clash between Kyogre and Groudon to rest. Seeing as the Sea Basin Pokémon and the Continent Pokémon have both been active recently, it’s no surprise that this normally reclusive Pokémon has reappeared in their place!”
Starting this Wednesday, July 31st, at 1 p.m., Rayquaza will appear in five-star Raids, and you’ll have your chance to find the Shiny variant. The event will last until September 2nd at 1 p.m. PT.
Rayquaza is weak to Ice-, Rock-, Dragon-, and Fairy-type attacks. Make sure to especially use Ice-type attacks during the Raid battles, as the Legendary is quadruply weak to ‘mon with those abilities!
Good luck to all of you who are in search of the rare Gen III ‘mon!
