Today’s Nintendo Direct treated us to some more news regarding Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is just around the corner.

The segment opened up with a mention that the game features the return of fan favorite characters, double-items, and Battle Mode, going on to say that there is more content unlocked right from the get go than any other Mario Kart game, ever. The rest of the coverage was spent discussing the expanded features of the online mode, as now you can choose between racing or battling online. Race hasn’t changed from the Wii U version, allowing you to compete against 11 other racers on random tracks. Battle, meanwhile, is brand new. Not only are tracks randomized, but the different modes you’ll be playing are randomized as well.

In addition to Worldwide and Regional match-up options, you can also create a personal room to race with friends, setting your own rules, items, CPUs, and more. Creating and entering personalized online tournaments also makes a comeback in Deluxe, and Nintendo will be hosting two of their own to celebrate the launch of the game. One tournament will be for racing while the other will be for battling. Info regarding both of these tournaments will be announced at a later date.

If you’re eager to get your race on, don’t forget to pre-order Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch before it launches April 28th.
