It’s always inspiring to see the selflessness of charity spring up and flourish through the power of video games and their community, and no group does it with style quite like Games Done Quick. This collective hosts multiple events each year to raise money via donation drives spurred on by some truly incredible speed-running, glitch-abusing, game clearing action. From blindfolded Punch-Out!! runs to Pro Yoshi’s Cookie exhibitions, some truly remarkable things come up on these streams and it’s always a treat to watch live.

This year Summer Games Done Quick was another spectacular success, raking in about 1.295 million dollars for Doctors Without Borders. This beats last years SGDQ total as well as the total donated during Awesome Games Done Quick 2016 back in January. This was accomplished via donations, raffles, and even a dedicated Humble Bundle all for a great cause.

For anyone that missed the event there is thankfully a dedicated SGDQ playlist of this year’s action, with some great Nintendo highlights amongst the cross-platform collective. Currently addicted to Pokémon Go? They’ve got runs through the Game Boy originals. Still haven’t caught your Breath after this year’s E3 Zelda reveal? They’ve got you covered with multiple games worth of Hyrule heroics. And for fans of everyone’s favorite mustachioed plumber the event was bookended by Super Mario Sunshine at the start and concluded with Super Mario RPG, along with a multi-player Mario 64 race happening in-between.

Keep in mind this was a week-long event of content and some of these playthroughs are still being uploaded, but what’s available already is varied and lengthy enough to keep you entertained for quite a while. For anyone itching for more speed runs, Awesome Games Done Quick will be happening next January though registration isn’t open quite yet. Till then enjoy this and the previous years’ archives to hold you over and keep the spirit of giving going strong.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
